R. S. Walsh Landscaping and In The Garden have donated 600 native grasses to the City of Sanibel for installation in the Jordan Marsh Water Quality Treatment Park being established along Casa Ybel Road. These grasses will be planted along with other native and aquatic plants to help clean the water and improve the water quality and wildlife habitats in the Sanibel River basin.
“We are happy to donate these grasses to help with the water quality in and around Sanibel and Captiva Islands. It is also another opportunity to educate our clients on the use of rain gardens in their own landscapes to help clean their water before it enters the island water stream. We continue to look for ways to incorporate environmental stewardship on all the properties we design and install,” said Robert Walsh, owner of R.S. Walsh Landscaping and In The Garden.
As an example, R. S. Walsh recently designed and installed a landscape for the new Chase Bank on Sanibel located at Palm Ridge Road that contains 100% native trees, shrubs and groundcovers. This plant selection will help reduce any fertilizer and water requirements for their buffer plantings.
The primary goal of the Jordan Marsh Water Quality Treatment Park project is to improve water quality in the Sanibel Slough to help meet Florida water quality standards. Secondary goals of the project are to enhance existing wildlife habitat on the site, provide recreational opportunities, and educate visitors on the various best management practices used to improve water quality.
