In The Garden – Sanibel’s Retail Garden Center and Outdoor Showroom has planted a spirit tree that benefits local non-profits. The Olive tree was chosen because it represents love and charity. Spirit tree donations from October 10-31 will benefit Captains for Clean Water.
Canvas spirit tree tags can be purchased at the garden center gift shop for $5.00. Purchasers can write well-wishes or blessings on the tags and attach them to the tree. All tag sales will be donated to Captains for Clean Water. In The Garden will match all tag sales and anyone who purchases a tag will receive a free 2 inch succulent.
“Water is our island’s most valuable resource,” said Lisa Walsh, owner of In The Garden and R.S. Walsh Landscaping. “Captains for Clean Water shares our goal of protecting the well-being of our estuaries, the health of our local ecology and the quality of life for those that live, play, and stay on our islands.”
Captains for Clean Water is a grassroots 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that advocates for the elimination of harmful, large-scale Lake Okeechobee discharges into the Caloosahatchee and St. Lucie River Estuaries by restoring the natural flow of Lake Okeechobee water south into the Everglades and Florida Bay. Restoring the natural southern flow of Lake Okeechobee water is essential to the survival of our estuaries, the health of the Everglades, and the long-term viability of South Florida’s largest drinking water source.
